David Davies

David L. Davies, 87 of Harlan passed away suddenly on Wednesday morning of December 28, 2022 at his home.
Mr. Davies was born April 20, 1935 to the late D.L. and Io Davies in Barbourville, KY. He was the Co Founder and former Director of the Harlan Boys Choir in Harlan. He was a Teacher in the Harlan Independent Schools System where he began in 1956 teaching Middle School English. Even after retirement you could always find Mr. Davies supporting his Beloved Green Dragons at any event that may have been going on. He was a member of the Harlan United Methodist Church where he had served as music director and church leader for many years. Several accolades have come to Mr. Davies over the many years of teaching academics and music, coaching basketball to the youth of Harlan Co., but on October 22, 2022 he was given the distinction of it being Declared David L. Davies Day in Harlan Co., KY., he will always be remembered for being a Mentor to so many of youth in Harlan Co.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Davies Slusher; special brother in law, Ike Slusher and sister in law, Anna Sue Davies; very special friend for whom he raised like a son, Samuel Mils.
Left to celebrate his life is his brother, William E. Davies of Prosper, TX; Jeremiah Mills (Jaiden) who was like a son to David; special nieces, Deborah Slusher, Virginia Martin (Steve) Sarah M. Ausmus (Jeff), JaneL Paynter (Charles); nieces and nephews, Drew Davies (Debbi), Mark Davies, Danna Miller (Darren); great nieces and nephews, Amy Meeron (Steven), Alice McConnell (Joey), Sarah J. Smith (Nathan), CJ Ausmus (Katherine), Martin Ausmus, Lauren Paynter (Katie) Kristen Paynter, Meghan Paynter, Dawson Miller, Dane Miller, and Andrea Davies; great-great nieces and nephews, Spencer and Maddie Meeron, Addie and Jackson McConnell, JuliaRose and Samantha Jane Ausmus; a host of special cousins, other relatives and special friends.
Visitation will be 11:00 am - 2:00 pm Tuesday (Jan. 3) at the Harlan Baptist Church.
Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm at the Harlan Baptist Church with Rev. Kyle Burnette officiating.
Burial will follow in the Resthaven Cemetery at Keith, Ky.
Pallbearers will be Terry Harris, Fred Howard, Denver "Dink" Pollitte, Bryan Morgan, Mike Allison, Neil Middleton, Mark Bell and John Lundy.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the Harlan Boys Choir Alumni.
