Walter E. “Buck” Burkhart, 88 of Cawood, Kentucky died Saturday, December 23, 2017 at his home.  Buck was born May 25, 1929 in Harlan Co., Kentucky son of Noble and Ethel Massingale Burkhart.   He was a retired U. S. Postmaster serving 30 years at the Cawood Post Office and had served his county in the U. S. Army. He was a member of the Cranks United Methodist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nell M. Burkhart; son, Johnny Kinser; sister, Trilby Sanders; and brothers, Archie and Bill Burkhart.

Surviving are his children, Teresa J (Ken) Mackay, Mark A. Burkhart, Edward N. Burkhart and David (Loretta) Burkhart; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.  Several Nieces, Nephews, and other relatives also survive.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 28, 2017 from 11:00 AM until the funeral hour at the Anderson-Laws and Jones Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be conducted Thursday, December 28, 2017 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Anderson-Laws and Jones Funeral Home.  The Rev. Stanley Blevins will officiate the services.

Interment will follow the funeral in the Resthaven Cemetery at Keith.  Military rites will be provided by the Harlan Honor Guard.
