Viredia Russell Saylor

Viredia Rickman Russell Saylor, 88 of Harlan passed away Thursday Dec. 22, 2016 at the Hazard ARH Medical Center.

Mrs. Saylor was born Nov. 13, 1928 in Anthers, TN to the late George Wilburn Rickman, SR and Dorothy Mae Lawson Rickman Phillips. She was a former substitute Teacher with the Harlan County Board of Education and the Harlan Independent School Systems. At the age of 58 she graduated from Union College with a BS in Education. She was a member of the Writer’s Society and had several published stories. She loved the Little Harlan Opry and always loved to tell a good story. She believed in the Church of God faith.

Besides her parents she was preceded by her husband and father of her children, Clifford Russell, Sr., and son-in-law, Tommy Truitt, Sr.

She is survived by her husband, Andy Saylor; her children, Sarah Gayle (Walt) Williams, Sandra Ruth Truitt, Roland (Barbara Ann) Russell, Hiram William (Shari) Russell, and Viredia Rebekah (Ed) Causey; grandchildren, Jody Lee, Jeffrey Alan, and Daniel Ray Williams, Virginia Rebecca Couch, Tommy E. Truitt, Jr, Matthew Jon Truitt, Wendy Leigh Brock, Crystal Rene Brock, William Dale Russell, and Rachel Marie Wyatt; 27 great grandchildren, and 13 great-great grandchildren also survive.

Visitation will be 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm Monday (Dec. 26) at the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 pm Monday (Dec. 26) in the Chapel of Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home with Rev. James Russell officiating.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday (Dec. 27) at the Resthaven Cemetery with Grandsons serving as Pallbearers.

Flowers are welcomed, but memorials are suggested to the Harlan Co. Senior Citizen Center, Activity Fund 105 N. Cumberland Ave., Harlan, KY 40831.
