Vickie Jean Owens

     Vickie Jean Owens, 71 of Baxter, Ky passed away March 2, 2024 at UK Medical Center.  She was born July 14, 1952 to Victor and Reva Pfaff.  Vickie was a 1970 graduate of Harlan High School, where she was the Salutatorian of her class.  A few years later, Vickie would graduate from nursing school and be the first in her family to start a career in the medical field. 

    Vickie’s nursing career spanned for several decades where she helped so many people and touched the lives of several patients and their families.  First, she worked at the Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital for 29 years.  During that time, Vickie worked as an outpatient nurse and was the OR supervisor several years leading up to her retirement. Once she retired from HARH, Vickie continued helping others through her work at HOSPICE for several years.  During her time at HOSPICE, she worked as nursing supervisor in the Harlan and Corbin offices.  Vickie worked with many wonderful people, co-workers, nurses and doctors.  Everyone who knew her can tell you just how helpful and caring she was to all.  

Besides her parents, Vickie is preceded in death by her brothers: Sanford Pfaff, Hartsel Pfaff, Tony Pfaff and Leon Pfaff; her sister, Loretta Setser; her mother and father-in-law, Faye and Fred Owens Sr. 

Vickie is survived by her loving husband of 33 years, Fred Owens Jr.; her 2 sons; Jeremy Jackson (Billie Jo) and Jason Jackson (Hope); 4 grandchildren:  Addison Jackson, Caiden Jackson, Jeremy Jackson II and Alexis Jackson; her fur babies; Ranger and Boo-Boo; her sister-in-laws: Sandy Owens and Audrey Gooden; her brother-in-law Bobby Owens; along with a host of family and friends.
