Sylus Burkhart

Sylus Burkhart, 70 of Coldiron, Kentucky died Monday, July 11, 2016 at his home with his family by his side. He was born February 12, 1946 in Harlan County, Kentucky son of the late Bentley and Latisha Burkhart.
Sylus served honorably for the U. S. Army in the Vietnam War where he received two Purple Hearts. He was a retired coal miner for the Kentucky-Harlan Coal Company. He was a member of the Coldiron Church of God of the Mountain Assembly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Bud Burkhart, J.M. Burkhart, and Harmon Burkhart as well as four sisters, Lydia Arthur, Nora Blevins, Francis Saylor, and Allie Nagy.
Surviving are his loving wife, Helen Brock Burkhart of Coldiron; and daughters, Lisa (Randy) Pillion of Asheboro, NC, Rachel (Joseph) Yose of Waco, TX, and Melinda “Susie” Osborne of Pineville, KY. Also surviving are brothers, Earl Burkhart of Coldiron, Levi Burkhart of Coldiron, and Charles Burkhart of Ohio; sister, Sylvia Griffin of Pathfork; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Thursday, July 14, 2016 from 6:00 – 9:00 PM at the Coldiron Church of God of the Mountain Assembly.
Funeral Services will be conducted Friday, July 15, 2016 at 1:00 at the Coldiron Church of God of the Mountain Assembly. The Rev. Jack Carmical will officiate the services.
Interment will follow the funeral in the Laymen Cemetery at Coldiron. Members of the Harlan Honor Guard will provide Military Rites. Ryan Yose, Kalyn Yose, Jacob Pillion, Colton Pillion, Dakota Morris, Tanner Morris, Caleb Carmical, and Daniel Carmical will serve as pallbearers.
