Staff Sargent Ryan D. Austin, age 25, of Corbin, passed away on Tuesday, August 6, 2013 in Maidstone, United Kingdom.

Ryan entered into this life on January 14, 1988 in Winston Salem, NC the son of Doug Austin and the late Karen Long. He was a 2006 graduate of South Laurel High School and was united in marriage on December 6, 2009 to his beloved wife, Jessica. Ryan made the brave decision to serve his country in the United States Air Force, enlisting on January 19, 2010. He was currently stationed at the Kapaun Air Station in Germany, where he worked as Cable and Antenna Maintenance. While in the Air Force, Ryan earned the Air Force Achievement Medal, Meritorious Unit Award, AF Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Air Force Expeditionary Service Ribbon, USAF NCO PME Graduate Ribbon, Small Arms Expert Marksman Ribbon (Rifle), AF Training Ribbon and the Cyberspace Support Badge. He was a member of the West Corbin Baptist Church and will be remembered for his love of golf, cooking, learning and traveling.

Ryan will be lovingly remembered by his wife: Jessica Austin; his unborn son: Brayden Kaine Austin; his father: Doug E. Austin; two brothers: Nathan Austin and Dylon Wall; his sister: Rachel Austin and a host of family, friends, neighbors and fellow service members. He also leaves his local family in Harlan his Great Aunt, Patty Burkhart Miller and great Uncle, David Burkhart.

He is preceded in death by his mother: Karen Long and his maternal grandmother, Lois Burkhart Long.

Funeral services for SSgt. Ryan Austin will be conducted on Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at 11am at the Corbin Funeral Home with Pastor Daniel Carmack officiating.

A Funeral processional from Corbin thru Harlan will take SSgt. Ryan Austin to his final resting place at the  Fields Cemetery in Cawood. Military Honors will be conducted by the Honor Guard of the Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

Friends may call on Monday, August 19, 2013 from 5-9pm at the Corbin Funeral Home.
