Shirley (Myers) Hornsby, 83 of Elcomb, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 26, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving children.
She was born October 12, 1939 to the late Delores Osborne Myers and Cecil Myers of Coalgood, KY. On October 31, 1953 she married her husband of 48 years, Elzo Hornsby. Shirley worked at the Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital for 36 years, where she made many lifelong friends. Shirley was the best Mother, Sister, Aunt and Mamaw/Mammie.
Shirley loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, they were very dear to her, and she loved spending time with them. She also enjoyed her time attending church where she taught Sunday school, singing for the Lord, visiting the hospital and nursing home where she enjoyed praying for the sick.
Besides her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her brother, JC Myers and her grandson, Bobby "B-Bob" Grubbs.
She leaves to cherish her memory seven children, Donnie (Sue) Hornsby of Gulston, Robert (Pat) Hornsby of Totz, Debra (Huey) Long of Wallins, Lisa (Steve) Hyde of Pennington Gap, VA, Tammy (Nick) Wright of Elcomb, Randy (Melissa) Hornsby of Elcomb and Sandy (Scott) Johnson of Andersonville, TN.
Shirley was blessed with 11 grandchildren, Robbie, Jason and Ariel Hornsby, Bobby "B-Bob" Grubbs, Christie Wright Johnson, Nicholas Wright, Cierra Hyde, Zachary and Caitlyn Hornsby, Stephen King and Alexis King Fisher; 15 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Shirley had several special friends, including Mary Katherine Peters and Marie Burnett. She leaves a host of many special nieces, nephews, extended family and friends that will miss her dearly.
Visitation will be 5:00 - 7:00 pm Wednesday (Dec. 28) at the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home.
Funeral services will follow at 7:00 pm in the Chapel of the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home with Pastor Billy Owens, Pastor Jeff Farmer and Pastor Perry Long officiating.
Graveside services will be at 12:00 pm Thursday (Dec. 29) at the Resthaven Cemetery in Keith, KY. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home by 11:30 to go in procession to the cemetery.
The family wishes to express a special thanks to Bluegrass Hospice Care nurses, Bridget and Tiffany for the wonderful care they gave our mother.
