With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Roy Lee Britton, Sr., who left this world at the age of 89 to enter his Heavenly home. A man of quiet strength and unwavering love, he built a legacy of hard work, devotion, and family.
For over thirty years, Roy worked in construction, building bridges with Dixie Bridge Company and 3-D Construction. His strong hands shaped the world around him through his work and the love and care he gave to his family. Though he was a man of few words, when he spoke, it was with wisdom, kindness, and purpose.
Above all, Roy cherished his family. He married the love of his life, Eleanor June Smith, on January 18th, 1962. And though he lost her far too soon, he carried her love with him every day. His family was his greatest pride, and his friends knew him as a steadfast and loyal companion.
Roy was born to James and Charlotte Britton in Harlan County on May 10th, 1935. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved June, several brothers and sisters, and members of his family.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Barbara (Ebb) Saylor, of Smith, Kentucky; Roy Lee Britton, Jr., of Smith, Kentucky; Donnie (Priscilla) Britton, Smith, Kentucky; a dearly beloved brother, John (Lillie June and Vince), Winchester, Kentucky; his grandchildren: Roy Lee Britton, III (Erica), Baxter, Kentucky; April Saylor, Smith, Kentucky; great-grandchildren: Darla Britton, Westlyn Britton, Isaac Combs, and Kasyn Combs; Charlie (Natalee) Napier, and Hagan (Lucy) Napier; two great-great-grandchildren: Conway Napier and, soon to be, Sadie Napier, as well as a host of friends and relatives.
Though he is no longer with us, his legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the lessons he taught, and the love he so quietly and deeply gave.
A service to honor his life will be held at Anderson-Laws and Jones Funeral Home on Saturday, March 1, 2025. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00, with the funeral service beginning at 7:00 with the Reverend Spencer Burkhart officiating and Reverend Roger Clem reading the obituary.
The family will have a private burial on Sunday, March 2nd, 2025, at the Smith Cemetery in Smith, Kentucky.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to all who have prayed and given their support during our difficult days. We would like to acknowledge the 2nd-floor Cardiac ICU nurses at Hazard ARH for their professional care, compassion, and devotion.
Family was the most important part of Roy’s life. Our family asks you to hold your loved ones close and tell them you love them every day.
