Rev. Ernest N. Boggs, 80 of Sunshine, Harlan, Kentucky passed away Monday, April 18, 2016 at the Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital. Rev. Boggs was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a proud Marine having served his country in Japan.
He is a retired pastor, having been minister at Chevrolet Baptist, Liggett Baptist, and Sunshine Baptist where he spent 23 years. He served with the Upper Cumberland Association of Baptist where he was director of Missions for 14 years. He was a devout Christian and Missionary having did Mission work in Africa. He was a church builder having helped build churches all over the United States.
He attended the University of Kentucky as well as the Clear Creek Seminary. He had been employed by General Motors, Commonwealth Insurance, Boggs Insurance Agency, and The Harlan State Vocational and Technical School where he taught carpentry. Rev. Boggs was a member of the Howard Lodge # 819 and a Kentucky Colonel.
Born March 13, 1936 in Leslie County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Elish David Boggs and Sara Jane Browning Boggs. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Carlos Boggs; sisters, Stella Boggs Noe and Bessie Boggs Noe.
Surviving are his loving wife of 60 years, Anna Sue Boggs; children, Brenda (Danny) Boggs Felosi, Ernie (Linda) Boggs, Linda (Kurt) Boggs Howard, and Joy (Tommy) Boggs Tucker; grandchildren, Jason Felosi, Jonathan Felosi, Nathan (Ashley) Felosi, Tara (Chris) Boggs Jones, Kelly (Sean) Boggs Daniels, Emily Boggs, Heather Boggs, Nick Boggs, Samuel Howard, and Jacob Howard; great-grandchildren, Ally Felosi, Carson Felosi, Chloe Felosi, Callie Felosi, Andrew Daniels, Aiden Daniels, Evan Daniels, Eli Daniels, Hannah Jones, Lindsay Jones, and Felicity Howard. Also surviving are brother, Chalmus Boggs; sister-in-law, Opal Boggs; and brother-in-law, Haggard Noe.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 20, 2016 from 5:00-8:00 PM in the Chapel of Anderson-Laws and Jones Funeral Home.
Church Services will be Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 1:00 PM at the First Baptist Church of Loyall. The Rev. Sean Daniels, Gary Craig and Dennis Williams will officiate the services.
Interment will follow the funeral in the Resthaven Cemetery at Keith, Kentucky. Military Rites will be provided by members of the Harlan Honor Guard. Masonic Services will be presented by Howard Lodge #819.
