On Monday, December 30, 2024, God called one of his most precious, servant hearted earth angels to join him in Heaven. Norma Mink age 89 of Lexington KY formerly of Loyall, KY was a faithful Christ follower, devoted Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and friend to many. She left her mark with every path she walked. To know her was to love her and to be loved and accepted by her.
Norma’s life was lived walking in faith as a servant heart with caring hands. Many hours were dedicated to making this world a better place, whether giving of her time volunteering at Christ’s Hands, bringing hope to women battling addiction at Hope Center and Elimisha House or simply sharing her beautiful smile and listening ears for her treasured friends and family. She was a true reflection of Galatians 5 verses 22-23 “But the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self control; against such things there is no law.”
Norma was born March 1, 1935 and raised in Harlan, KY where she made her home until moving to Lexington in 2020 to be close to family. She graduated as Salutatorian from Hall High School and continued her education at Cumberland College. She was a retired dental assistant for Dr. N. S Guy lll, who she jokingly let be the boss, but just occasionally. She built her own catering business and was known for her specialty cakes and wonderful dinners. Norma was active in Homemakers Club and devoted many years on the planning committee for the Harlan County Women’s Christian Conference. She taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years. Later in life, it made her so happy to simply sit on the couch and watch the birds, especially her beloved cardinals and hummingbirds, as well as the squirrels, play at her big bird feeder amidst her flower garden.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents Earl and Kathleen McVey, siblings Arthur McVey, Johnny McVey and Irene Reeves, late husbands Lloyd Jay “Buddy” Powers Ferguson and Paul Mink. Left to mourn her loss are her sisters Alice (Pat) Wagaman, Ruby (Dan) Kelly, brother Jim McVey and sister-in-law Diana McVey.
Children left to carry on her legacy of unconditional love and compassionate hope are Debbie (Ron) Bowman, Shay (Bill) Pennington, Jeff Mink and John (Jill Stoltzfus) Mink; grandchildren Brian (Sara) Bowman, David Pennington, Jay (Stacy) Pennington, Heather (Dave) Chapman, Chad (Karen) Bowman, Amanda Alexander, Kylie Mink and Ryan Mink. Her most prized treasures were her great grandchildren Bram, Nathan, Noah, Aidan, Brody, Cole, Aven, Natalie, Laurel, Makayla, Juniper and Alexis plus her special furry companion Bella.
Our family would like to thank the teams from Baptist Health, Lexington Country Place and Bluegrass Hospice for the wonderful care they provided her these last three months. An extra special thanks to her favorites, Nurse Bella and her physical therapist Perry who always made her smile with a little song and dance to get her going. She basically adopted them into our big family. Your compassion showed with every step of her journey.
