Mollie Mccarthy

Mollie Walton McCarthy, 96 of Harlan formerly of Lynch passed away peacefully on Friday Aug. 23, 2013 at the Harlan Health & Rehabilitation Center.

Mollie was born on July 1, 1917 in Pineville, KY to the late Rice and Martha Walton. She lived most of her life in Lynch, KY and was a 1936 graduate of Lynch High School. She loved the community of Lynch and enjoyed all of the Bulldog Reunions with old friends. She worked many hours with the Ladies Garden Club, the Portal 31 Committee to plan the exhibits that pay tribute to the heritage of her town. After moving to Harlan in 2002, Mollie made another circle of friends, joining the Christian Menders and Glory Singers of the Harlan Baptist Church. She also enjoyed playing Bunco with the ladies at Holy Trinity. Mollie was an active member of the Church of the Resurrection in Lynch, and later the Holy Trinity Church in Harlan. Most of all, Mollie was a devoted wife, and mother.

Preceding her in death are her husband, Edward J. McCarthy, her parents, Rice and Martha Walton, one sister (best friend) Nancye Walton Delph and a son, Edward Walton McCarthy.

She is survived by her two loving children, Martha McCarthy, and Dave (Mary Lou) McCarthy all of Harlan; her brother, Joe (Doris) Walton of Knoxville, TN; her daughter-in-law, Joanne McCarthy of Jacksonville, FL; 6 grandchildren, Maureen (Bob) Morales, Colleen (Russell) Bucca all of Jacksonville, FL, Shannon (Anthony) Twilla of St. Petersburg, Fl, Lee (Megan) Freyer, Kerri McCarthy and Wilson “Wil” McCarthy all of Harlan; 6 great grandchildren, Andrew, Michael, and Christopher Morales, Dominic and Olivia Bucca all of Jacksonville, FL, and Elijah Freyer of Harlan; special nieces and nephews, Carl (Pat) Delph of Indianapolis, IN, Joe Delph of Lexington, KY, Jean (Mike) McGowan, Jill (Tom) Culbertson and Julia (Brian) Tobler of Knoxville, TN; special friends, Irene Wilson, Joe and Angel Ewing, and Julia Mitchell.

Visitation will be Monday Aug. 26, 2013 from 5 until 7:00 pm at the Holy Trinity Church.

Funeral Mass will be 11:00 am Tuesday, Aug. 27, 2013 at the Holy Trinity Church with Father T. Mani George officiating.

Burial will follow in the Monte Vista Cemetery at Cumberland.

Pallbearers will be Mike O’Bradovich, Lee Freyer, Joe Delph, Carl Delph, Sheb Wilson, and Claude Wilson.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Tom Vicini, Leo Miller, Dr. Jack Cope, Bobby Hampton, and Joe Ewing.

The family would like to thank the staff of the Harlan Health & Rehabilitation Center, we could have not asked for better care.
