Mabellee Goss Grim of Harlan passed away September 8, 2014 in the Hospice Unit at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky from complications following a fall. A native of Harlan, she was born June 30, 1916 to the late David Alexander Goss, Attorney and the late Captola Forester Goss, homemaker.
She was the widow of William Milton Grim from Wisconsin who came to Harlan during its heyday as part of an orchestra brought in to entertain the locals. One look at Mabellee, a former Miss Harlan during the thirties, was all it took. The two were married, he quit the orchestra and took a job at Brookside Mine.
Mrs. Grim is predeceased by her brothers Tom, Walter, Spencer and Marion and her sister Edith Goss Parker.
She is survived by her brother Charles Eugene Goss and her sister Pauline Jeanette Goss. She leaves behind to mourn her passing seven nieces and nephews, Jerry Jane Parker Payne, Lucy Lynn Parker Maxwell, Karen Jean Stansberry Anderson, Walter Thomas Goss, Timothy Hunter Goss, Mark David Goss and Dean Craig Stansberry. She also is survived by a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews as well.
Mrs. Grim will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Bill, at Hamilton Memorial Gardens of Hixson, Tennessee where they lived for many years. Graveside services will be held on Friday, September 12, 2014 at 1:00 PM.
The family requests that memorials be given in her name to the Seventh Day Adventist Church (at Baxter) P.O. Box 1006, Harlan, KY 40831.
