Johnnie Lewis, 76 of Jones Creek passed away Monday Jan. 2, 2017 at his home.
Johnnie was born Oct. 29, 1940 in Harlan Co., KY to the late Pugh and Amanda Gilbert Lewis. He was a retired coal miner. He enjoyed woodworking and most important loved his 3 grandbabies. He was a member of the Jones Creek Church of the Living God.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters, Claudia Blevins and husband William and Frankie Herron; brother, Tommy Lewis.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Louise Blevins Lewis; children, Mary “Liz” (Mark) Lewis, Greg (Jessica) Lewis, and Tim (Tonya) Lewis; grandchildren, Jared, Matthew, and Emma Lewis; his sisters, Trula Green, Diane (Ray) Bennett, and Tiny Harp; special friends, Preston Stewart, and Charlie Owens; special cousin, Ralph (Shirley) Napier; special caregivers, Tina Coots, Linda Hammon, Tabitha Delf, and his niece, Beverly (Harvey) Ford; several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends are left to mourn his passing. His family would like to give a special thanks to Hospice of the Bluegrass, Mountain Heritage for their care and compassion during Johnnie’s illness.
Visitation will be 6:00 pm – 9:00 pm Wednesday (Jan. 4) at Verda First Baptist Church, and after 12:00 pm Thursday (Jan. 5) at the Church.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 pm Thursday (Jan. 5) at Verda First Baptist Church with Rev. Danny McCreary, Rev. Jerry Kirby, and Bro. Philip Wynn officiating.
Burial will follow in the Evarts Memorial Gardens at Verda, KY.
