Howard Hicks

Howard Hicks, age 89, of the Minneapolis Community, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 9th, 2017 at Johnson City Medical Center.  A native of Avery County, he was a son of the late Loddie and Texie Hicks.  He was preceded in death by a daughter, Amber Anne Hicks and brothers:  Fred Thomas Hicks and Dawson Glenn Hicks.  Howard was a US Army Air Corps/Air Force Veteran who proudly served in WWII. He attended Minneapolis Baptist Church for many years.  He was an avid NASCAR fan and would drive like Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt combined.  He enjoyed being outdoors, hiking, fishing and camping, but above all he loved his family and grandbabies.

Surviving is his loving wife of 52 years, Jewel Barnes Hicks; daughters:  Regina Hicks Link (Harold), Lisa Hicks McNeill (John) and Katrina Seagle; sons: Howard William Hicks, Jr. "Buckie" (Lori) and Gerald Hicks;  grandchildren:  Lauren Plummer (Matt), Blake Hicks (Katrina), Lacie Garland, Heather Ojeda and Jamey McNeill (Molly) and great-grandchildren:  Kholten Plummer, Maverick Hicks, Elijah Barfield, Ellie Ojeda and Keegan McNeil.  Many special nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 12th in Minneapolis Baptist Church.  Rev. Bryan Griffith and Pastor Brent Snyder will officiate.  Burial will follow in the Ashley Cemetery.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church.
