Harold "George" Howard

June 10, 1947 — December 11, 2020

Rosspoint, KY

Harold Donnie “George” Howard entered his heavenly home on December 11, 2020.  He had been a patient at Baptist Health in Lexington, KY for 23 days until he lost his heroic battle with COVID-19. He was surrounded by his nurses and doctors who so diligently and lovingly took care of him.

He was born to the late Tom and Mary Hensley Howard on June 10,1947. He went to Rosspoint Elementary School, graduated from Loyall High School in 1965 and attended Eastern Kentucky University.

George began working during high school. He was employed by Mack’s for several years. He began working for Harold G. Ball's Mount Pleasant Funeral Home, working along side lifelong friends and mentors, Late Harold G. Ball, Late Joe Mahan, Late C.H.Clem, and Jim Rich, Sr. He attended the Kentucky School of Mortuary Science in Louisville and obtained his Funeral Directors license in 1970.  In 1972, he began his career as a Kentucky State Trooper.  He achieved the rank of Detective before his retirement in 1992.

His involvement in the Masons was an important part of his life.  He enjoyed the charitable works and the fellowship. He was a member of the Howard Lodge 819 F & AM and Nolen Lodge 806 F & AM.

His church was the most important aspect of his life.  He was a member of Liggett Baptist Church and was there every time the doors opened.  He truly loved his church family.

He was an exceptional man who was a friend to all.  He never met a stranger.  If he thought anyone needed help, he always responded. He loved all outdoor activities including gardening, fishing, hunting, riding four wheelers and side by sides.  Heading to the mountains in his truck was his favorite trip.

George was preceded in death by his father and mother, Tom and Mary Hensley Howard, and brother, Sam Howard.

He is survived by his son, Charles Wayne Howard, sisters, Terry and Judy Howard, and his beloved lady of 36 years, Gayle Jurgens.
