Harold Howard
January 25, 1923 — July 7, 2014
Harold Edward Howard, 91 of Harlan passed away at his home on Monday July 7, 2014.
Mr. Howard was born Jan. 25, 1923 in Harlan, KY to the late Daunt and Una Coldiron Howard. He was the retired owner and operator of the Mayo Trail Service Station in Baxter, KY. He served as 1 st District Magistrate for 16 years and then served 4 years as Harlan Co. Sheriff. He was a member of the Baxter United Methodist Church, a 62 year Member of the Howard Masonic Lodge where he was a Past Master, member of the Oleika Shrine Temple in Lexington, KY. and an Eagle Scout.
He loved his Church, his family, Harlan County, this great Nation, and had a special kind of love for High School sports, especially his beloved Harlan Green Dragons.
Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his sister, Betty Howard Bryant.
He leaves his beloved wife of 72 years, Elizabeth Howard of Harlan; his children, Daniel E. Howard and wife Debby Webb Howard of Harlan, Frieda Howard Baker and husband Joe of Barbourville; grandchildren, Seth Howard and wife Jane, Whitney Mendiondo and husband Adrian, Kathy Baker Moore, and Lindsey Joe Baker, III and wife Morella; great grandchildren, Hannah and Logan Moore, Matthew, Mark, and Isabella Baker, Lilly and Anna Claire Mendiondo; special grandchildren, Bitty Foster and Earl Raglin. He leaves a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends to mourn his passing.
Visitation will be Wednesday (July 9) from 5 until 7:00 pm at the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home.
A Celebration of His Life will follow at 7:00 pm in the Chapel of Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home with the Rev. Kyle Burnette officiating. Music will be provided by Mr. David Davies and Mr. Jeff Lunsford.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am at the Resthaven Cemetery Chapel with Masonic Rites being observed by Howard Lodge. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 am to go in funeral procession to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be David Clay Howard, Mike Coldiron, Danny Williams, Greg Coldiron, Randy Barrett, and Mike Forester.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorials to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 1900 Richmond Road Lexington, KY 40502 in memory of Mr. Howard.
