“And God wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain:  for the former things are passed away” (Rev.21:4)

Gillis Lee Adams, born March 24, 1936, finished his life’s journey on Tuesday,  August 27, 2013.

Gil was born in Harlan, Kentucky and was a 1955 graduate of Hall High School where he participated in football and baseball.  He was extremely proud to be a “Gamecock”.  One of his fondest memories was being the pitcher of the 1955 baseball team which was the State Runner-Up.  After high school, he attended Union college and Cumberland College where he majored in education.  He continued course work focusing only in the area of Math from the University of Kentucky and Eastern Kentucky University where he received his teaching certification.

Gil will be remembered as a committed husband, loving father and caring grandfather.  He loved to be surrounded by his “three girls” whom he treasured.

In this life he was a brave soldier, a hard worker, successful businessman, respected coal miner, and a faithful friend.  Most importantly, Gil was a Christian who reminded his family every day of how good God had been to him.  Throughout his years of sickness, he never ceased to give God the glory for each and every day he was given.

Gil is preceded in death by his father, Ernest; his mother, Louisa Short Adams; a sister, Josephine Adams; and two brothers, Archillis and Charles “Poss” Adams.

Gil leaves behind the following loved ones who will cherish his memory forever.  His wife of 53 years, Freda Brock Adams; Daughter Kimberly Lee Adams Allison and her husband Jim; Granddaughter Alexandria Lee Allison and her fiancé Kenny Pennington all of Harlan; step grandson  James Andrew “Drew” Allison of Lexington, KY; and his one surviving brother, Cecil Adams and wife Ann of Bellefontaine, Ohio; special friends Jerry and Diana Hall of Putney, KY and lifetime friend, Jack Morgan of Cincinnati, OH; along with many other relatives and friends.

Relatives and friends will gather to remember and celebrate his life at a graveside service conducted at the Resthaven Cemetery Chapel on Saturday, August 31, 2013 at 1:00 PM with the Rev. Clay Groves officiating.  The Harlan Honor Guard will present Military Rites.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Putney Bible Church, P.O. Box 45, Putney, KY  40865 or the Sunshine Baptist Church, P.O. Box 973, Harlan, KY  40831 in memory of Gil.

Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Adam’s Family.
