Geraldine "Jerry" Brooks

September 23, 1929 — June 24, 2016

Geraldine “Jerry” Brooks, 86, of Sharps Chapel, TN, passed away Friday, June 24, 2016 at her home.  She was born September 23, 1929 in Loyall, KY, the daughter of the late Beckham and Lee Evans Carmical.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher for the Young Girls Sunday School Class.  Jerry was very involved in many causes involving children, whether it be teaching Sunday School, serving on the PTA or any capacity that she was called upon to serve in.  One of her greatest passions was the Kentucky Baptist Home for Children.  Jerry was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

She is survived by the following members of her family:

1 Daughter: Rebecca (Tom) Nix of Roswell, GA

2 Sons: Michael (Ardella) Brooks of Sharps Chapel, TN and Dr. Hilton (Janet) Brooks of Middlesboro, KY

3 Brothers: Willard (Virginia) Carmical of Harlan, KY; James (Sharon) Carmical of Atlanta, GA and Dr. Neville Carmical of New York, NY.

Grandchildren: Amy Brooks Ferguson, Chris (Summer Jo) Brooks, Beth Brooks Coots, Stephanie Brooks, Jonathan Nix, Jennifer Brooks, Elizabeth Nix, Paul McCowan and Allison MacLeod.

Great Grandchildren: Bryson Osborne, Colton Brooks, Claire Brooks, Beckham Brooks, Keylee Coots, Landon Coots, Abigail MacLeod, Paul Mitchell McCowan, Evelyn McCowan, Daniel McCowan, Abigail MacLeod and Andrew MacLeod.

And a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Monday, June 27, at the Binghamtown Baptist Church with Dr. William Boyd Bingham presiding.  Eulogies will be given by Michael Brooks and Chris Brooks.  Music will be provided by Seth Carmical.  Interment will follow in the Green Hills Memorial Gardens.  Pallbearers will be Chris Brooks, Jonathan Nix, Paul McCowan, Brian Coots, Clay Carmical, Casey Carmical, Ron Ferguson and Billy MacLeod.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Monday, June 27, at the Binghamtown Baptist Church.

The family requests that memorials take the form of donations to the Alzheimer’s Association of East Tennessee, 1545 Western Avenue, Knoxville, TN.  37921
