George C. Baker, 55 of Loyall answered his final call on Tuesday morning of September 11, 2018 at home surrounded by his family and friends following a courageous battle with cancer.
George was born May 5, 1963 in Harlan to the late Gerald and Georgia Long Baker. He was a graduate of James A. Cawood High School, LMU, and the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. His entire adult life George was involved in EMS services in Harlan Co. He was a Paramedic for Trans-Star Ambulance Service, Funeral Director and Embalmer for Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home with whom he served as an Insurance Agent for Investors Heritage Life Insurance Co. He was a member of the Harlan County Rescue Squad, where he trained Scuba Diving and Repelling. Was member of the Civil Air Patrol, an Eagle Scout, former member of the Harlan & Loyall Fire Departments and taught Paramedic classes at LMU. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Loyall and had attended the Elcomb Baptist Church. George enjoyed cooking and exploring new restaurants in the different areas he visited.
Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his grandparents, Cody and Elsie Long and George and Roxie Baker.
He is survived by his aunt, Ginger (Ron) Ford; uncles Donahue (Wilma) Long and Morris (Faith) Long; several cousins, and other relatives. As well as special friends, Ray & Sharon Doepel and Family, Jeremy & Autumn Hollowell, Lisa & Jeremy Artigue, Allen Blanton, and his extended family of 1st Responders.
Visitation is after 11:00 am Friday (September 14) until the funeral hour at the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Friday (September 14) in the chapel of the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Moore officiating.
Burial will follow in the Resthaven Cemetery at Keith, KY with Honor services being provided by the Georgetown/Scott County EMS Honor Guard team.
Pallbearers will be the staff of the Trans-Star EMS.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the staff of the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home, past employees of the Harlan EMS and Mountain EMS services.
Flowers are welcomed, but the family suggests memorials to the Camp Blanton Trust, the Harlan County Rescue Squad, or to the Harlan County Relay for Life in memory of George.
