Gaynell Parsons

April 14, 1923 — October 16, 2016

Gaynell S. Parsons died October 16, 2016 at her home in Baxter, Kentucky.  She was born April 14, 1923 in Keokee, Virginia daughter of the late Grace Legg Parsons and James Roy Parsons.  She became a member of the Pansy Baptist Church on September 3, 1944.

Gaynell worked at the Yancey Commissary, Harlan Fuel Company for 25 years, Harlan Jewelry and Hardware for 14 years, and the Harlan City School System for 10 years.  The joys of her life were the Kentucky Wildcats and her nieces and nephews.  She was a Kentucky Colonel.  She was a graduate of Hall High School and attended Union College.

Surviving are her siblings, Ralph (Betty) Parsons, Inez (Paul) York, Richard (Celia) Parsons, Dennis Parsons, and Myra Kunath.  A host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews also survive.

Visitation will be held in the chapel of Anderson-Laws and Jones Funeral Home Wednesday, October 19, 2016 from 10:00 – 12:00 PM.

Graveside services will follow in the Resthaven Cemetery at Keith, KY.  The Rev. Bobby Joe Rouse will officiate the services.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Hospice of the Bluegrass, 2972 S US Highway 25E, Barbourville, KY 40906 or the Pansy Baptist Church, Box 1207, Harlan, KY  40831.
