Fred (Buck) Adkisson, 83 of Harlan, KY entered his eternal resting place on Friday, April 25, 2014. He is now in the Heaven he dreamed of and with the Savior he loved and worshipped. Buck was a devoted husband, a wonderful father and grandfather, a loyal friend to many and dedicated member of Kelly Street Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and Church Treasurer for many years. He loved his family with his entire heart and showed love and compassion with his gentle, quiet spirit in everything he did. He loved the beauty of God’s earth where he spent many summers gardening. Serving the Lord was his main priority and he was always faithful to his church with his presence, his support and his love.

Fred was born to Lucille and Lonnie Adkisson on Friday Dec. 12, 1930. His parents, his sister, Nadine Brown, and 3 grandsons, Donny Adkisson, Christopher Donald Adkisson, and Mark Wayne Kelly preceded him in death. He lived his entire life in Harlan, and was a graduate of Harlan High School where he played football and later served as President of the Harlan High School Athletic Association and as a Harlan Independent School Board Member. He was a Veteran of the Korean conflict serving in the United States Air Force. Fred retired from the Harlan Post Office where he worked for 38 years.

He leaves his loving and devoted wife of 57 years, Pauline Ward Adkisson; his children, Brenda (Alfred) Kelly of Lambertville, MI, Otis “Rusty” (Emily) Bailey of Putney, KY, Audra “Peanut” (Terry) Byers of Lexington, KY, Rev. Donnie (Lisa) Adkisson of Harlan, KY, Kaye (Sam) Ratcliff of London, KY, Kim (John) Croushorn of Corbin, KY, Ronnie (Cheryl) Adkisson of Prospect, KY, and Bill (Jennifer) Adkisson of Brodhead, KY. He leaves behind 17 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild. Also surviving is his brother, Dave (Jeanene) Adkisson of Martinsville, IN and Jack (Bonnie) Adkisson of Myrtle Beach, SC.

Buck is now healed of his sickness and walking with his heavenly Father where he is happy forever. He would want his family and friends to celebrate his life with joy and fond memories.

The family asks that you join in this celebration of life at the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home on Sunday, April 27, 2014 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

The funeral will be conducted 11:00 am Monday, April 28, 2014 in the Chapel of Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home with Rev. Donnie Adkisson and Rev. Paul White officiating. Buck will then be laid to rest in the Resthaven Cemetery at Keith with Military Rites being observed by the Harlan Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be Josh Bailey, Justin Taylor, Charles Cassim, Benny Hensley, J.B. Donahue, Ray Alred, Bob Miracle, and Ed Hatmaker.

The men of the Kelly Street Baptist Church will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.

Flowers are welcome however; contributions can be made to the Kelly Street Baptist Church Youth Group, PO Box 1378, Harlan, KY 40831 in memory of Buck.
