Eula Gray (Browning) York

Eula Gray (Browning) York, 93 passed away peacefully on Thursday morning of September 19, 2024 at the Harlan Health & Rehabilitation Center with family by her side.

Born October 2, 1930, she passed just shy of her 94th year Birthday. Eula was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Jerusha Browning; her husband of 60 years, Howard D. "Denny" York, Sr; her brothers, Denver Ray "Buck" (Valdean) Browning and Richard (Betty Dean) Browning.

A true southern lady, Eula was well known for her beautiful smile, her love for her family and her church family, quilt making, crocheting, and her chocolate pies. Eula had worked as a teacher's aid and substitute Teacher at Harlan Independent School for years. She and her husband ran Denny Ray Drive In for many years, it is there where Eula made her famous BBQ sauce for the drive in, before they moved to Jonesville, VA in the 1970's. A former member of Harlan Baptist Church for many years and in her latter years she become a member of Jonesville First Baptist Church.

Eula is survived by her three sons, Douglas Ray (Lavonne) York of London, Denham (Linda) York of Harlan and Daniel York of Jonesville, VA; Granddaughter, Rebecca York of London; grandson, Tyrus (Brittney) York of Lexington; her only great grandson, Benjamin Jacob York of London; her brother, Edward (Phyllis) Browning of Harlan; she leaves a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives to mourn her passing.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff and all of the employees of Harlan Health and Rehabilitation Center for their compassionate care and loving kindness shown over the years. They would also like to thank her special friends/aids, Erika Dingus of Jonesville, VA, Kathleen Stewart and Kim Huff of Harlan and the late Rhonda Johnson (for whom we all lost way to soon).

Visitation will be held at 11:00 am - 12:00 pm Monday (Sept. 23) at the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home, 114 S. 3rd Street, Harlan, KY 40831.

Funeral services will follow at 12:00 pm Monday (Sept. 23) in the Chapel of the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home with Rev. Josh Haywood officiating.

Burial will follow in the Resthaven Cemetery at Keith, KY where she will be laid to rest beside of her beloved Husband Denny.

Although flowers are welcomed the family suggest memorials to Harlan Baptist Church, 102 West Mound Street, Harlan, KY 40831 or to Jonesville First Baptist Church, PO Box 328, Jonesville, VA 24263 in memory of Eula Gray York.
