Ellis "Jolly Green Giant" Farmer

Ellis “Jolly Green Giant” Farmer, 89 of Harlan went peacefully to meet his Heavenly Father on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at the Harlan ARH.

He was brought into this world unto the union his parents, Andrew and Sally Jones Farmer on May 7, 1928.

He served in both the United States Air Force and United States Navy on board the USS Chikaskia A054 from 1946 until 1951. But above that he served the Lord as a born again Christian. His passions in life included his family and any University of Kentucky sports programs.

Besides his parents he is preceded in death by his wife Ollie Jean Farmer; brothers, Leonard, Nolan, and Clemon Farmer; sisters, Ruby Wells, Minnie Whitaker, Thelma Stringer, and Irene Swanner.

He is survived by his sister, Beatrice Moore; 2 children, Vinson Farmer of Grays Knob, and Tammy (Joel) Forester of Harlan; grandchildren, Courtney Forester of Harlan, John (Jennifer) Forester of Charlottsville, VA, Ginny (Greg) Icard of Pavo, GA, Kate (Nate) Yarbrough of Tallahassee, FL; great grandchildren, Joshua (Ashley) Icard, Jacob, and Shannon Icard, Jack and Drew Yarbrough, Grace Forester, and a great-great grandchild on the way. Several nieces, nephews, other relatives are left to mourn his passing, including his most faithful furry companion, “Buddy” the dog.

Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, (Jan. 1) at 6:00 pm in the chapel of the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home with Rev. Ronnie Williams officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 pm on Tuesday (Jan. 2) at the Resthaven Cemetery with Military Rites being observed by the Harlan Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be Joel Forester, Mike Forester, Kody Durham, Steve Miracle, Bob Miracle, and Chris Stringer.

Visitation will be after 4:00 pm on Monday (Jan. 1) until the funeral hour at Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home.
