Elizabeth Hunter

Elizabeth Johnson Hunter, 81 of Baxter, Kentucky died Sunday, June 25 at the home of her daughter Linda in Kannapolis, NC. Elizabeth was born July 7, 1935 in Loyall, Kentucky daughter of the late Mae and William Robert Johnson.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Loyall at a very early age until the family relocated to Pineville, upon returning to Harlan she reactivated her membership and has never wavered in her commitment to God and her church; an extremely active member of the Order of Eastern Star; a lifelong member of the VFW auxiliary; and a proud member of the Harlan County Republican Party, she served as election commissioner for over thirty years. In 2010, she was inducted into the Fifth District Lincoln Club Hall of Fame for unwavering dedication and service to the republican party.
She was a graduate of Pineville High School. She enjoyed gardening, reading, cooking, baking, sewing, needlepoint and crocheting. She enjoyed sitting on porch and watching the humming birds and playing with her dogs.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward L. Hunter; daughter, Donna S. Smith; brothers-in-law, Hershel “Herky” Robbins and James Oscar Brooks; and best friend Juanita Freeman.
Surviving are her children, Charles R (Vickie) Hunter of Smyrna, TN, Brenda (Eddie) Metcalf of Loyall, KY, and Linda (Clint) Hoskins of Kannapolis, NC; grandchildren, Ashley (Amandalyn) Hunter of San Antonio, TX, Emily (Donnie) McKee of LaVergne, TN, Dylan Smith of Lexington, KY, Preston (Brittany) Smith of Birmingham, AL, Summer Howard of Loyall, KY, Justin (Julianna) Hoskins of Charlotte, NC, Jordan (Bekah) Hoskins of Concord, NC, and Jacob Hoskins of Matthews, NC; great-grandchildren, Elijah Russell Wall Hunter of San Antonio, TX, Nolan Raymond McKee of LaVergne, TN, and Maeven Elizabeth McKee of LaVergne, TN; and siblings, Roger (Brenda) Johnson of Pineville, KY, Ralph (Wanda) Johnson of Pineville, KY, Rachel Robbins of Foremile, KY (Bell Co.), Rebecca Brooks of Sealy, TX, and Rod (Debbie) Johnson of Flatlick, KY (Knox Co.).
She will be terribly missed not only by her family but also by her many special friends and neighbors.
Celebration of Life services will be held on her birthday, Friday, July 7, 2017 at the First Baptist Church of Loyall, KY. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM with the funeral following immediately at 7:00.
A private burial will be at a later date.
