Clarence Turner

Clarence Turner, 84 of Baxter passed away Sunday morning of January 5, 2025 at the Greg & Noreen Wells Hospice Center in Hazard, KY.

Clarence was born on July 18, 1940 in Leslie County, KY to the late Covie and Polly Jane (Lewis) Turner.

Besides his parents, he is also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 57 years, Shirley Turner; his siblings Lillian Gilvin, Johnny Turner, Willie Turner, Ray Turner, Opha Lewis, and Lois Gilbert; as well as his infant son, Clarence Anthony Turner.  

He is survived by his loving sister, Edna Mae Hollon; his son, Tim Pennington, and wife, Joy; and his daughters, Angela Gambrel-Turner, who provided devoted care to her father over the past year and a half, and Regina Roberts and husband Jamie. Cherished grandchildren include Kenny (Alex) Pennington, Jeffery (Brittni) Gambrel, Autumn Cornett, Justin (Shayla) Gambrel, Cade (Emily Evans) Pennington, and Noah Roberts, as well as nine great-grandchildren and numerous beloved nieces and nephews. 

Clarence dedicated much of his life to the coal industry, moving to Baxter, Kentucky, in 1972 to build a home for his family – a home he crafted with his own hands and took great pride in. A man of faith, he embraced the Church of God and, in his later years, attended For God’s Glory Ministries. His humble strength and kind heart will be deeply missed. 

Visitation will be 5:00 pm 8:00 pm Wednesday (Jan. 8) at the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 pm Thursday (Jan. 9) in the Chapel of the Anderson-Laws & Jones Funeral Home with Pastor Jamie Roberts officiating and obituary by Kenny Pennington.

Burial will follow in the Wilder Cemetery at Rosspoint, KY where he will be laid to rest beside of his beloved wife, Shirley. 

Family and friends will serve as Pallbearers.
