Chloe Anna (Johnson) Lewis of Kingsport, TN died Thursday, October 3, 2024 at The Blake at Kingsport, after a period of declining health.
She was born February 27, 1939 in Black Mountain, KY. She attended Evarts High School, where she met her husband of 68 years and the love of her life, Elmer Lewis, Sr. As Elmer’s career advanced, they moved several times over the years, first to Big Stone Gap, VA, then to Kingsport, TN, returning to Harlan, KY, and finally to Middlesboro, KY before settling in Kingsport for their retirement.
Chloe worked at a variety of retail establishments including Belk, Fashion Bug, and JCPenney, but her focus was on raising her family, which was her pride and joy. She loved cooking family meals and babysitting the grandchildren, even if it meant having to climb to the top of the Chick-Fil-A playground in Sevierville to get one down.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, Church Hill, and attended the Helping Hands Sunday School Class.
She is preceded in death by her son, Elmer Lewis, Jr (“Britches”), her parents Warness and Josephine Johnson, and her brother, Doug.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son David (Lee Ann) of Mt. Carmel, 6 grandchildren, Sarah, Hope, Jennifer, Jessica, Brandi, Kyle, and their spouses, and 8 great grandchildren.
Chloe’s family would like to thank the staff of The Blake at Kingsport for their loving care of both her and Elmer during her illness – Chloe and Elmer love each of you. We also want to thank the staff of Caris Hospice for their love and care of Chloe and Elmer during this time. We appreciate all of you more than we can ever express.
The family will receive friends on Friday, October 11 at 10:00 a.m. at The Blake of Kingsport, 3308 Ft. Henry Dr., Kingsport, with a memorial service conducted by the Rev. Gary Gerhardt immediately following at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Breakthrough T1D for diabetes research, St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, or to the youth program of FBC Church Hill.
