Cecil Gross

Cecil A. Gross, 75 of Verda, passed away peacefully at Harlan ARH Hospital, May 6th, 2014.

Cecil was born Feb 11, 1939 in Verda, KY to the late George C. and Laura Stewart Gross.

As a young man Cecil joined the Marine Corp.  After the marines he became a coal miner and worked for many years at Eastover Mining where he made many lifetime friends.

Besides his parents he is preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.  Cecil was the last living of 21 children.  Also preceding him in death is a son Verden Lester Perkins as well as two great granddaughters Audrey Lee Odell and Ava Grace Odell.

Cecil leaves behind to cherish his memory three daughters:  Pat Lay and husband Eddie of Verda, KY, Lura Adams of Verda, KY, and Teresa Middleton and  husband Rondal of Brookside, KY; one son:  Greg Perkins of Pennsylvania; grandchildren:  Christy Middleton and husband Willie of Verda, KY, Jeremy Helton and wife Annie of Somerset, KY, Nicole Odell and husband Eric of Knoxville, TN, Justin Lay of Verda, KY, Robbie Middleton and wife Jessica of Evarts, KY, Dustin Middleton of London, KY,  Michael Perkins and wife Kari of KY, and Ashely Hurst and husband Will of Bean Station, TN; great grandchildren:  Darby Hurst, Emma Odell, Lexie Lay, Kelsie Middleton, Jasper Rholman, and Jackson Helton.  Several special nieces and nephews also survive.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 – 7:00 in the Chapel of Anderson-Laws and Jones Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be conducted immediately following the visitation at 7:00 PM also in the Chapel of Anderson-Laws and Jones Funeral Home.  The Rev. Joe Howard will officiate the services.

Interment will be Friday at 12:00 PM in the Evarts Memorial Gardens in Evarts, KY.  Military rites will be observed by the Harlan Honor Guard.  Grandsons will serve as Pallbearers.
