Alfreda Roberts Maggard Boggs, 85 of Cumberland, KY was born February 13, 1939 to the late Thelma Hensley Roberts and Jack Roberts at Nolansburg, KY, she entered into her Eternal Heavenly rest on March 9, 2024 in Cumberland, KY.
She became a Christian at the age of 11 years old, and was a member, pianist and organist at the Putney Bible Church until 1974. She become a a member of the Cumberland Missionary Baptist Church in May of 1976, played the piano and become Organist in 1978 until her death.
Alfreda graduated from Cumberland High School in 1957, and received her B.S. Degree in Elementary Education from Cumberland College in 1964. She taught school for 34 for years with the Harlan County Board of Education having retired in 1992, 29 of those years was at Cumberland Elementary School. She was a member of the Kentucky and National Education Associations, Kentucky Retired Teachers Association and a Kentucky Colonel.
She loved teaching her English, Reading, and Writing classes, and helping children to learn and succeed in their lives. She also loved seeing and meeting her students after they became adults, and learning about their lives and accomplishments.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her first Husband, Jack Maggard; second Husband, John Boggs, Jr.; her grandfather, Eli "Poppie" Hensley; three aunts, Essie Hensley, Zona Hensley and Roxie Rowland; uncles, Orbin (Elanor) Hensley, Kermit (Stella) Hensley; three cousins, Margaret "Bobbie" Hall, who was like a sister to her, Jerry Rowland and Bruce Hensley.
She is survived by her sister in law, Joan Boggs of Florida; cousins, Jeanette McDaniels of Nolansburg, KY and Roy (Glenda) Hensley of Totz, KY; Michael Hall of Lexington, Angela Hall Noe of Kingsport, TN, Mary Hensley, Diana (Bob) Mullins, Rachel Hensley, Earl Hensley, Eddie Hensley, Theressa (Darius) Rose, Jennifer McDaniels, Susie Mullins, Donna Noe and Jim Hensley, lots of other cousins and friends, including special friends, Margie McKnight, Orville and Valus collier, Kat Cannon, Karen Quillen, her church family and friends at Cumberland Missionary Baptist Church.
Visitation will be 11:00 - 1:00 pm Tuesday (March 12) at the Cumberland Missionary Baptist Church.
Funeral services will follow at 1:00 pm at the Church with Rev. Dennis Williams officiating.
Burial will follow in the Resthaven Cemetery at Keith, KY. Family and Church Friends will serve a Pallbearers. Memorials are suggested to the Cumberland Missionary Baptist Church, 408 Spring Street, Cumberland, KY 40823 in Memory of Alfreda.
